We are delighted to announce the launch of the H&H Rural Matters Bursary fund, aimed at supporting the next generation of farmers across Cumbria.
The bursary, worth £3,000, will be open to young farmers aged approximately 25 - 35 years who are actively involved in farming or agricultural-related businesses and are looking to develop their skills, education, or operations through practical projects or training.
Applicants will be invited to submit proposals outlining the project or activity for which they are seeking financial support, including the purpose, expected outcomes and funding requirements. All applicants must reside in Cumbria.
Successful recipients of the bursary will be announced in the summer, with a short film/video of the chosen recipients presented at the Cumbria Farmer Awards in August 2026, with applications assessed by a nominated H&H judging panel.
Commenting on the launch, Richard Rankin, CEO H&H Group said:
“I am delighted to be able to share details of our H&H Rural Matters Bursary. Supporting young farmers is an investment in the future of Cumbria’s agricultural industry. This bursary is designed to recognise ambition, encourage innovation and provide practical support to individuals with the drive and ideas to move their businesses and careers forward.”
Glyn Lucas, Dairy Sales Manager, is a great advocate of the new scheme and said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team at H&H for their vision and initiative in launching the H&H Rural Matters Bursary Fund. It truly reflects H&H’s commitment to supporting the next generation of farmers in Cumbria. I’m excited to see the applications that come forward from our young farmers and the ideas they bring with them. I firmly believe that the future of agriculture lies in the hands of today’s youth, which makes this initiative all the more inspiring and important.”
