We are delighted that the Forty Farms Outdoor Trail Exhibition is now OPEN for everyone to visit and enjoy. This outdoor art exhibition features the remarkable work of British Life Photographer of the Year, Amy Bateman, and records the stories and images of Forty Farms in Cumbria during a time of profound change.
An introductory panel and 40 large-format panels are displayed along the Low Sizergh Barn farm trail, each capturing the dedication and passion of farming families who are working with nature, producing high-quality food and maintaining and improving our landscapes, environment, and rural economy. The organic dairy farm at Low Sizergh is one of the Forty Farms featured.
Amy’s stories were originally brought together in the book "Forty Farms" which was published in 2022 and is the winner of the Lakeland Book of the Year.
“Farmers are at the very heart of the Cumbrian and Lakeland landscapes,” says H&H Group CEO Richard Rankin, “and it is their work which has moulded and forged these landscapes for generations. They provide so much, including food for our tables, accommodation for our visitors and, importantly, they provide care for the Cumbrian environment we all love.”
Photographer Amy Bateman said: “I am thrilled to be working with H&H Group to bring this exhibition alive at Low Sizergh. It’s been a dream to keep telling these farming stories to more people and this way we can reach a brand-new audience.”
About the Low Sizergh farm trail
The farm trail, which is just under 2 miles, starts just outside of the late 17th-century Westmorland stone barn that houses the farm shop and café with delicious cakes!!
The loop around the farm fields and woodlands is perfect for little legs (carriers are better than pushchairs for the tiny ones).
Outdoor clothing and wellies are definitely recommended.
The Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition at Low Sizergh Barn is open until April 2024. Every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day: 9 am – 5.30 pm. There are no entry or parking fees.
