Lynda and Andy Eadon lost their son Len, who took his own life at the age of 22. They are passionate about spreading the message to every rural community to please talk openly about how you really feel and to share stories and experiences.
They recognise the important role that Livestock Markets play in the lives of their local communities, as it is a place where the rural community come together to talk, laugh and listen, which is so important in the current climate and in particular with regard to mental health.
They are embarking on the Len’s Light Tractor Relay, travelling from county to county, from John O’Groats to Lands’ End, through June & July 2023 with the quest to get their message to as many people as possible that no one in the rural community should feel isolated or alone.
The Len’s Light Tractor Relay route has been created to pass by as many livestock markets as possible and will visit Borderway on Tuesday 27 June which unfortunately is non-sale day for a brief rest stop with a chance to meet up with the market team and of course H&H staff.
Before the Start of the Relay:
Prior to the start of the relay Lynda and Andy are intending to get the following items to all markets:
1. Len’s Light message book called: “The Little, Big Book of Everyone”
This gives each place the chance to be put on the map, with their message of today for the benefit of tomorrow. On completion of Len’s Light Relay, these books will be compiled to make one big book of Hope & Warmth, created by the rural community.
2. Details of an online petition: “To make mental health and farm safety statuary in all land based Agricultural Colleges and Universities.”
3. The marts they are calling in at will receive an individual A4 alphabetical letter, with space for a message and logo, which will be collected up by us when we pass through.
The letters will be placed on a display board at the completion of our journey to Lands’ End, spelling out a statement created by the rural community.
The Len’s Light Tractor Relay will be fundraising for charities - Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies), Farm Community Network & Papyrus (Prevention of Young Suicide) and is with support from The Livestock Auctioneers’ Association Limited
We’ll give you more details when we know more of their plans and what time they are expected to stop by our mart...
