Supporting Great British Beef Week 23rd – 30th April 2023
One of the UK’s biggest traders in British beef cattle, Harrison & Hetherington are serving a feast of best British beef at their Borderway Mart to celebrate Great British Beef Week 2023.
The UK’s leading livestock trading company, Harrison & Hetherington , is promising a week of best British beef dishes topping the menu at their Borderway Mart Café to highlight the importance of supporting Britain’s world-beating beef industry.
Great British Beef Week is a week-long celebration of British beef’s quality, taste, and world-leading sustainable farming credentials. Beginning on St George’s Day, Sunday 23rd April, farmers, supermarkets, butchers, farm shops, pubs and restaurants across the UK will unite to support British beef farmers and celebrate the work they do to support sustainable production practices on their farms.
As a livestock trading company, Harrison & Hetherington play a crucial linking role in getting Britain’s top-quality beef from the farm to the butchers and supermarkets who supply the nation’s kitchens, and they guarantee that every mouthful of the different daily beef recipes they will serve at the Borderway Mart next week will have passed through their auction ring.
H&H Senior Auctioneer Grant Anderson and his team at Borderway Mart supervise the sale of around 180 prime beef cattle every week, supplying national meat wholesalers and local butchers with beef they know has been sustainably reared to the highest standards of welfare and quality by farmers in the North West and Scotland.
“A high proportion of the cattle that pass through our primestock sale ring come from farms within a 30 to 35 mile radius of our Borderway Mart, and every single heifer, steer and bull is 100% traceable to its farm and field of origin. So the butchers and wholesalers who buy at Carlisle know that their customers are getting the very best of locally bred and fed British beef, and we’ll be showcasing the outstanding quality of this local beef in our Great British Beef Week menu at the Borderway Mart café.”
The Borderway menu will include a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes including:
But alongside simply enjoying the excellent Borderway cooking, or your own, Grant Anderson hopes the celebration of beef will extend to a vote of support for the beef industry.
“We also want to use this opportunity to urge people who appreciate the best of British food to support their local beef farmers by creating their own beef dishes this week, and indeed every week. High quality beef is a very important part of a healthy diet, and our farmers produce the highest quality beef in the world. They are also taking every possible measure to improve the sustainability of best farming practice both in raising animal welfare and in reducing their environmental impact.
“We hope we can draw wider attention to this and encourage people to enjoy British beef with us either at Borderway or at home, and give our beef farmers a pat on the back at a very difficult time. The pressures of rising costs and changes in UK farming policy are forcing many farmers to switch from producing food to selling for development or planting trees. By joining us in Great British Beef Week you’re helping to fly the flag for a vital part of our farming industry that deserves as much support as we can all give it to survive and thrive into the future.”
