ESSENTIAL first aid training aimed at agricultural and forestry workers will take place in Carlisle next month.
The practical skills sessions on Tuesday, February 7 at H&H’s Borderway Mart are the latest in a series of first aid courses which aim to reduce serious injuries on farms and in rural industries.
More than 100 farmers and agricultural workers have already successfully completed the training, which is run by H&H Insurance Brokers (HHIB) in conjunction with H&H Safety.
Delivered by Farm and Forestry First Aid (F3A), the hands-on courses are tailored for farmers and forestry workers and cover potential scenarios such as quad bike accidents and serious incidents involving tractors and other machinery, as well as livestock.
For farmers working towards the Red Tractor accreditation, the sessions are registered and certified by the relevant authority, with certificates presented on completion.
Paul Graham, Managing Director of H&H Insurance Brokers, said: “With agriculture-related injuries and fatalities remaining extremely high, it’s important that anyone working in the industry has the confidence to act immediately and without panic in an emergency situation.
“These practical courses have been well received by attendees, with a 100% positive feedback score and people commenting that they are one of the best they have attended.”
The half-day sessions will cover essential first aid skills such as assessing a casualty, the correct recovery position, how to administer CPR, using an Automated External Defibrillator and learning how to treat crush injuries, amputations, impalements and severe bleeding, led by qualified health care professionals registered with the Health & Care Professions Council.
H&H Safety, an innovative health and safety package from HHIB in partnership with health and safety specialists AW Safety and aimed at creating a safer working environment for farmers, is supporting the event.
The training will run for three hours with morning and afternoon slots available.
