Auction mart opens its doors as community Warm Hub
The H&H Group’s Borderway auction mart in Carlisle will be opening the doors to its Mart Café as a Warm Hub for the external community from Tuesday 3rd January. Everyone (non staff) will be welcome each Tuesday and Thursday in January 2023, between the hours of 10am and 2pm with the option of a bowl of homemade soup and a roll for just £1.
Everyone from young families to pensioners are currently affected by rising bills, with the cost of living crisis forcing many to choose between heating or eating. The Borderway Mart Café will offer everyone who needs it a safe warm spot to go to, with internet access, and of course some lovely company.
Richard Rankin, Chief Executive of the H&H Group said, “Our Borderway Mart is already considered a vital social hub for the rural community, but we realised we could do more, so we decided to open the space for everyone in our community who needs a little respite from the cold.
We will be providing a warm space and the option of warm soup, but for some it will be so much more than that. Sometimes a warm smile and some human contact is what is most needed, and we are looking forward to delivering this to anyone crossing the threshold!”
Warm Hubs have been set up across the country to offer a safe, accessible, warm environment during the day for those struggling with energy costs. During the coming midwinter month of January, anyone who feels lonely, cold and worried about rising bills will find a warm welcome waiting at the Borderway Mart Café Warm Hub, completely free of charge.
