Every year the H&H Group choose a charity or charities that they will support for the next twelve months. After consultation across the entire company, the H&H Group announce that the charities they will be supporting in 2022 are My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Cancer Research UK.
Cancer affects nearly everyone, to some degree, at some stage of their lives. There are around 375,000 new cancer cases in the UK every year, that’s over 1000 every day, so it’s easy to see why Cancer Research UK was one of the staff’s choices.
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was founded five years ago by Doddie Weir OBE, one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities, Borders Farmer and a client of Harrison & Hetherington. He is now facing his biggest challenge yet - suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This is the same condition that Stephen Hawking endured and causes nerve damage and weakness, getting worse over time. There is no cure, but there are treatments to help reduce the impact it has on a person.
On announcing their chosen charities Richard Rankin, CEO of H&H Group said. “Without good health, life is painful, limited and stressful. Throughout their lives everyone will have some personal experience of cancer and may also realise that MND is a frightening and debilitating disease. We want to help people throughout Cumbria and the UK, to get the best possible treatment and advice for these life threatening illnesses. I know that everyone in the H&H Group will throw themselves into raising money for two such worthy causes and to make a difference.”
Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest independent cancer research charity, which works tirelessly to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. It has been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates in the UK double in the last 40 years.
Sophie Ingram, Relationship Executive at Cancer Research UK said, “We are thrilled that the H& H Group have selected Cancer Research UK as one of their chosen charities for the forthcoming year and wish them well with fundraising activities. The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.”
It was his frustration at the lack of effective treatment and little hope for MND sufferers, that led Doddie Weir to launch his charity in 2017. Its aim is to support research and awareness of the disease, as well as helping patients and their families live as fulfilled a life as possible.
Jill Douglas, CEO of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation commented: “We’re thrilled that H&H Group has chosen us as one of its charity partners for the year. Support from businesses such as H&H is important to our fundraising efforts as we continue to invest in targeted MND research and support patients living with MND.
“My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has a strong connection with the farming community, and of course Doddie is a farmer in the Borders, which makes this announcement particularly great news! Thank you again H&H, we can’t wait to hear all about your fundraising efforts.”
During 2022 the staff from the Group’s five operating companies across the North of England and Scottish Borders, will take place in a wide range of fundraising activities, including charity walks and runs, bake-offs, a car treasure hunt, inter-team sports day and numerous more events.
