To capitalise on the increasing number of visitors, H&H Auction Rooms Carlisle launch a virtual saleroom tour
To enable customers to view its weekly sales from the comfort of their own homes, H&H Auction Rooms have launched a virtual tour of their sale rooms, where people can zoom in to see individual items in advance of the sale. When trialled last month the virtual tour generated a great deal of interest with over 1300 views along with considerable social media engagement.
Virtual reality is becoming ever more present in our lives, from games to training and this is a great example of how it can enhance the auction experience. It also means that potential buyers can now cover more auctions without increasing their carbon footprint so is a win win all round!
“Virtual tours are a great innovation and we think we are the first northern auction house to offer this.” says Stephen Farthing, Auctioneer at H&H Auction Rooms Carlisle. “More people are engaging with auctions and now they can also view from anywhere. Many of our customers have to travel long distances to get to us and it is particularly useful if they need to fine tune their visit in advance.”
Easy to navigate, the virtual tour is accessed through the H&H Auction Rooms website. It initially gives a “dolls house” view of the entire building, then you can virtually walk through the auction room to find the objects that you are interested in and zoom in to look at them in more detail.
“For any lot that we want to highlight, we can also add extra details, such as a short video,” says Stephen “so look out for anything that has a solid dot on it, as that will mean there is extra information for you to access. The written catalogue is still a necessary part of the process as with over 700 lots on average per sale, it is important to have both a written and a visual description. It will be interesting to see if this technology not only brings more bids, but a newer and more tech savvy client base.”
