Last week it was the turn of Val, Nicole, Nicola and Nina from Group Services to utilise their H&H Volunteer Day at Growing Well, near Kendal.
“We all thoroughly enjoyed the Growing Well experience, gardening and spending time with their lovely staff.
Now we’ve been down to their site, we better understand the charity and how therapeutic it is weeding and planting vegetables. Growing Well provides this opportunity for hundreds of people with mental health issues and their facilities gives them the unique chance to experience the healing power of nature, working in a beautiful environment of their poly tunnels and gardens.
We all came away at the end of the day, tired (with muscles aching in places we didn’t remember we had) but with a sense of pride. Getting your knees and hands dirty, working with the soil and nature, gives you such a sense of wellbeing, as well as the satisfaction that we’d made a real difference. If you get the chance to go down, please go as you won’t regret it!”
