A career in finance...

...through an Apprenticeship

Jade Haughan | Case Study

Jade Haughan joined the Group Services team at H&H Group as an Apprentice Finance & Administrative Assistant in September 2014.

Jade had made the decision that she did not want to go away to university but was keen to follow a financial career to build on her love of mathematics.

Having enrolled with RWP Training Agency, Jade attended the interview for Apprentice Finance & Administrative Assistant with H&H and this seemed to fit perfectly with her family background in farming.

Margaret Irving (Group Personnel Manager) said ‘Jade was an outstanding candidate and our only hesitation about her suitability for the role was whether or not she would manage to get to work on time every day by bus from Kirkbride – she never let us down once, whatever the weather and now that she has passed her test, she is one of the first in the office every morning’.

After commencing her employment Jade attended regular training sessions at the RWP premises as well as having fortnightly meetings with her appointed RWP Assessor. Coupled with ongoing mentorship from Kerry Crabtree (Divisional Accountant at H&H Group), Jade soon achieved her Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration.

Jade said that she had been amazed at how much she had learnt since she commenced her apprenticeship, particularly in relation to finance and accountancy – being from a farming family she said that H&H Group was the main place that she wanted to work, so she had been delighted when she was offered the job. Jade said she would recommend the apprenticeship route to any young people who were considering their future.

With the full support of H&H Group, Jade is currently studying with RWP for her Level 3 qualification.

Jade’s mentor, Kerry Crabtree says’:

“We have now had the opportunity to work with Jade for almost two years during which time Jade has demonstrated exceptional reliability and commitment to H&H Group. During her time with H&H Jade has successfully achieved Level 2 of the Apprenticeship with an ongoing commitment to level 3. In addition Jade has been committed to developing new skills in order to undertake various levels of tasks. Jade’s enthusiasm for learning is infectious to other members of the team and Jade has brought new ideas to the ways in which we work.”

Jade is a keen member of Wigton Young Farmers’ Club and represents the county playing Flat Green Bowls.
