National Apprenticeship Week

Alex Scott | Business Administrator Apprentice

The first question I was asked when I told my friends and family that I’d got a job as an Apprentice Business Administrator was why? After going through University and trying to get my journalism career up and running through freelancing, why almost start again as an apprentice?

After the birth of my little girl in 2018, I’ll be honest I panicked, I started thinking about how reliable my income as a freelancer was and whether I really wanted to commit to this career path where nothing was guaranteed. I tried several temporary roles, but I found nothing that I enjoyed and felt happy with. That’s when I found the job opening at H&H Reeds.

Thanks to H&H Reeds I’ve been able to start again in my career, without worrying about the stereotypical things you hear about apprentices. I’ve been given a clear career path whilst earning new qualifications and I feel like a weight has been lifted, I’m not worrying about where money will come from in a few months’ time and I have set working hours which makes family life so much easier. (The Student Discount card helps too!)

The doors that apprenticeships open to all ages not just young people are astounding. I have no experience in Business Administration, however through taking on my apprentice role with H&H Reeds has given me a clear career path in this field.

The staff at H&H Reeds have made the transition into this new field even easier, they are patient with me and completely understand that sometimes I will be like a fish out of water. Everyone is very approachable and always happy to help, even when I end up repeatedly asking questions.

The fact that they even took into account me having a 2 year old, has made me feel so at ease starting at H&H Reeds and the fact they’ve mentioned things like when school starts for her has made me feel like I really belong and have a long term future with H&H Reeds.

We wish Alex every success 😀
