Richard joined what became Deloittes, qualified as a Chartered Accountant before moving into Corporate Finance and involved in transactions from small management buyouts to multi-national corporate acquisitions.
He moved to Cumbria, was made Corporate Finance Partner in 2006 running his own teams and offices; along the way advising a multitude of businesses - working with Boards of Directors and business owners to develop strategies through to making life changing decisions.
Richard commenced his CEO position in July 2018, enjoying the many challenges this presents.
Mark joined the board in November 2024, bringing extensive business experience across the defence and manufacturing sectors. With a career spanning leadership roles in complex, high-growth industries, Mark has a proven track record of driving strategic initiatives, fostering innovation, and delivering sustainable growth.
He originally joined H&H Group as Managing Director for Land & Estates before recently being promoted to Group Chief Operating Officer, where he plays a key role in shaping the company’s long-term strategy and operational excellence. Formerly a strategic lead for Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Mark has been instrumental in sector development, working to strengthen regional industries and drive economic growth.
Born and bred in Cumbria, Mark is deeply committed to the region’s prosperity. Holding an MBA and as a graduate of the INSEAD Global Leadership Programme, he brings a wealth of strategic insight and business acumen to the H&H Group board, ensuring the company continues to evolve while staying true to its heritage and values.
Scott has worked within the livestock industry his entire career, including 15 years at Harrison & Hetherington. Aged 17, he joined Perthshire’s Macdonald Fraser and Company as a trainee auctioneer, quickly progressing to become the youngest auctioneer at the time at age 21. His working life has included liaising with livestock farmers, major processors, meat wholesalers and family butchers, and his own father and grandfather were family butchers.
Scott has held a number of prominent industry positions, including senior auctioneer at Hexham & Northern Marts, chairman of Cumbria Association of Livestock Auctioneers and president of the Institute of Auctioneers & Appraisers in Scotland. He is currently a member of the Beef & Lamb Sector Council at AHDB.
When away from H&H, Scott can be often found behind the bar at his family pub, The Milecastle Inn, on the edge of Northumberland National Park.
Margaret hails from West Cumbria and with a previous background in accountancy joined H&H in 1995 as part of the finance team.
To enable her to fulfil the personnel role on behalf of H&H, Margaret undertook a post-graduate diploma in Human Resource Management and is a fully qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. She is also the Group’s Company Secretary and a Trustee of the Employee's Trust.
Margaret has two grown up daughters and lives on a smallholding in Houghton with her husband and their black Labrador – Siddy.
Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant down south, Roger relocated to Cumbria in 2002. Initially working within accountancy firms and then latterly in a couple of well-known local businesses, Roger gained a wide range of experiences and knowledge, developing his skillsets as an Accountant.
Roger joined H&H Group in 2016 and leads the Group Services Finance team. Every day poses different challenges, but the team meet them all head on, striving to do the best for the group of companies whilst living the company values, and ensuring that H&H is a fun and rewarding place to work.
Roger loves the outdoors and makes the most of the wonderful countryside in Cumbria with his family - whether on a bike, in a kayak or on foot.
Nina is a highly organised and competent marketing manager with over 30 years' generalist experience in medium/large companies and a proven track record of successful marketing campaigns, introducing new brands, utilising PR / event management and communication skills.
She thrives on the challenge of working within a busy environment with a focus on making a difference and embracing new technologies (where possible!) which makes the Group Marketing role a perfect one for her, as no two days (or hours) are the same! Nina moved up to Cumbria from Northamptonshire in 2013 having worked for the H&H Group initially on a freelance basis from 2009.
Nina loves the Cumbrian countryside outdoors - whether biking or walking her dogs.
Mark studied dairy manufacturing at Reaseheath College and worked for a large milk processing cooperative who operate globally. Initially specialising in delivering cost and efficiency projects, Mark has gone on to become a qualified health and safety practitioner prior to joining H&H in April 2023.
Mark draws on his experience in both the manufacturing and agricultural sector to maintain the safe working practices within the auction marts, printers and wider business. He has embraced the opportunity to work in a diverse range of business in a rural setting and the specific challenges that brings.
Mark runs a suckler herd of cattle at his farm near Annan and spends any spare time with family or on a mountain bike.
Karl joined H&H with over 15 years of experience in contract management, operations, and people leadership. Previously, he spent 14 years with Amey/Urbaser, most recently as an Operations and People Manager, where he successfully partnered with Eden District Council to oversee the smooth running of municipal contracts.
A highly skilled and dedicated Facilities Manager, Karl has a strong track record of optimising resources, managing teams, and delivering results within tight deadlines and budgets. His expertise spans multiple industries, including stock control, site management, IT services, environmental management, and cost control.
Karl is committed to implementing best practices that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive productivity. A natural leader, he fosters collaboration and motivates teams to embrace change, always leading by example.
